In the even year 2006, being poorer with regard to the regular intervals of exhibitions concerning some companies, German trade fair organisers achieved good results and partly even record levels.
Group Turnover of German Exhibition Companies from 60 mill €Messe Frankfurt in the second place worldwide in 2006
With 406 mill €, Messe Frankfurt was the first German trade fair organiser to exceed the 400 mill € sales mark and therefore is in the second place of the most important exhibition companies worldwide, following Reed Exhibitions being market leader (estimated exhibition sales in 2006 being at the same level like the year before at about 680 mill €). In 2006, international business activities of Messe Frankfurt rose to 88 mill €, corresponding to 22 % of the group turnover. In the course of this, almost half of the foreign sales were achieved in Asia, where the trade fair organisers from the River Main could realize the main part of the sales increase.
Düsseldorf reaches record level with Brno
With a group turnover of about 303.7 mill € in 2006 Messe Düsseldorf did not achieve its prior year result of 316.3 mill € (2005), but was able to increase its international business activity more than expected to 121 mill €. This includes a turnover of 62 mill €, resulting from the majority holding in the “Velethry Brno” in the Czech Republic, having increased its turnover by about 20 % in 2006. Including the Czech organiser, the foreign sales meanwhile contribute to 40 % of the group turnover of the trade fair pros from Düsseldorf. This consequently marks the leading position amongst the most important German exhibition companies. Not including the Brno turnover, still 19.4 % of Messe Düsseldorf’s proceeds result from its activities abroad.
The Messe München group achieved an accumulated turnover of 212.4 mill € in 2006 (2005: 223.4 mill €). 42 mill € from that sum were realized abroad; this equals a proportion of 20 %.
Nürnberg participates in the race to catch up
The second important Bavarian trade fair organiser, Nürnberg Messe, is striving to achieve foreign sales of 10 % until 2010. 6.4 mill € (4 %) of the 2006 turnover amounting to 125 mill € were achieved by its subsidiary Nürnberg Global Fairs.
Koelnmesse expanded its international business as well in 2006. The company in charge, Koelnmesse International GmbH including its subsidiaries, turned over about 40 mill € abroad. Consequently, the foreign sales amounted to about 18.5 % of the group turnover.
According to industry estimations, around 15 % of Deutsche Messe AG’s group turnover amounting to 232 mill € were achieved by its activities abroad.
