The start of work for one of the Middle East’s most significant economic development projects, the new Capital Centre in Abu Dhabi, has recently been announced by ADNEC, the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company.
To meet the increasing demand for commercial and residential facilities the project is being developed around the new Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Housing a new micro-city of 23 towers, including six hotels, four commercial buildings, five mixed used developments and eight residential and serviced apartment complexes, the Capital Centre is scheduled to be completed by early 2011. The project also features a 2.3 km water front Marina Zone.
As a specific eye-catcher the development will comprise an iconic 35-storey Feature Tower, including a five-star-plus hotel and 20,000 sqm of office and retail space. Located only 15 minutes from Abu Dhabi’s international airport the new landmark project, which is the largest development on the main island of Abu Dhabi, will have a huge economic impact on the emirate and foster Abu Dhabi’s positioning as a prime business tourism and commerce destination in the Middle East.
The first of Capital Centre’s 23 towers will be completed by September 2009.
The first construction phase of the new “Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre” offering 28,500 square metres of space was put into action in February 2007. The second phase with an additional exhibition space of 26,500 square metres is due to be completed until August 2008, increasing Abu Dhabi’s total exhibition space to 55,000 square metres.
