The German Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) each year runs a foreign trade fair program, which provides both financial and organisational support for selected exhibitions outside of Germany.
German exhibiting SME´s are active internationally, too. In the coming year 2009 the Federal Ministry of economics and Technology is funding 38 mill Euro for participations of mostly small and medium sized companies at 297 foreign exhibitions. The ministry thereby acts upon its mission to open up and secure foreign markets for the goods and services of German companies, in 2009 including 51 more exhibitions in the program than in the running year.
Russia in the lead
This year’s runner up Russia is leading the charge in 2009 by being host country to a total of 54 trade fairs covered in the program.
Current top of the list China remains a highly interesting market place for German companies, which formally applied for government support on 52 trade fairs in the land of the dragon.
Ukraine with impressive growth
In terms of increase in interest by German companies, Ukraine is the clear winner. A growth rate of 40 % in supported trade fair participations is an impressive testimonial of the economic potential of the market place Ukraine.
After having newly incorporated two Ukrainian trade fairs into the 2008 program in May 2007, another 6 trade fairs were added this year totalling 15 trade fairs next year. Ukraine thus moves into the top 5 countries within the government’s program.
In Central Asia Kazakhstan is asserting itself as Germany’s most important trading partner in that region. Trade volume of the two countries exceeds 5 billion Euro and German companies are visiting 8 Kazakh trade fairs in the scope of AMP in 2009.
Regarding number of AMP trade fairs in 2009 the United Arab Emirates are front-runner in the Middle East hosting 29 events selected by the BMWi.
